August 28th – R.I.P DJ AM

Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, was an inspiration to many current DJ’s.  Many will say that he wasn’t the best DJ, but what they can’t deny is that he was definitely one of the most influential ones.  I remember back when I first came upon this youtube:

This clip, I will admit, completely changed the way I saw DJ’n.  Mind you, I was already involved in the DJ game.  Moving from my early college years as a Latin music DJ to eventually an EDM (Trance/House) DJ.  But stumbling upon this clip was what inspired me to become what is currently known as an “Open Format” DJ.  Ever since then I began to follow DJ AM’s youtube clips and rare mix releases as I began to grow as a DJ.  I enjoyed listening to all sorts of music on my own time but never thought they would work at a club.  Listening to DJ AM I began to realize that, if properly put together, I could play pretty much any song I wanted while still keeping the crowd going.  For that I thank him.  I will have to say that I was lucky enough to catch him live in Kansas City and I will admit that it was one of the most fun times I’ve ever had as a club patron.
